BOOK PREVIEWS

I AM HAPPY TO PRESENT HERE select portions of my novels. They range from my Europe Trilogy volumes (The Trojan Spy, Lily Pad Roll, and soon Time of Exile), that chiefly focus on the still developing encirclement of Russia (fraught with the dangers of triggering a final superpower confrontation, and the sinister deeds of Western intel agencies and the manufacturing of terror), to topics that explore my own past and cultural and longstanding political preoccupations. Hope you enjoy these books, learn a few things here and there, perhaps recharge your sense of hope, and become an agent for change. The odds for humanity and those that depend on us for their life are not good, but they haven’t entirely vanished. Nature has been enormously generous with our species, but its patience is not likely to last forever. Human disorder and destruction, so wantonly wrought by a cynical, predatory system rooted in selfishness and short-term gain, has more than outlasted its welcome.—G.S.

“Five dark and moving stories pay homage to a city where ghosts play the part of real people, and vice versa. Gaither Stewart has written the definitive guide book about how to lose oneself in Berlin. Not since Alfred Döblin or Erich Kästner has the city been recounted to us with such crispness, insight, melancholy – and a careful and elegant touch of hope.” – Uli Wiesendanger, Communications Commentator, Adweek
